Hours earlier, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation issued a Blue Alert for Spangler, who is described as 5’8″ in height and weighing about 130 lbs., with brown eyes and brown hair.

After the shooting, he was believed to be in the vicinity of the 100 block of Santa Clause Road, in Cedartown near Cave Spring, the GBI said. Spangler was considered armed and dangerous.

“Do not approach, dial 911,” the agency said in the alert.

The officer who was shot dead was a police detective, according to the Polk County Standard Journal. Authorities told reporters at a news conference the deceased was identified as 29-year-old Kristen Hearne.

The officer that was wounded was wearing a bulletproof vest, the newspaper reports.

Polk County is about 50 minutes northwest of Atlanta. Cobb Sheriff’s vehicles were seen speeding toward the scene, local media reported.
