Multiple Police Officers Shot In Gainesville, Suspect On Run

GAINESVILLE, GA — Several Gainesville, Georgia, police officers were shot Friday night and multiple law enforcement agencies are searching for the gunman. The police department said on its Facebook page about 10: 20 p.m. that residents should be alert, lock their doors and report any suspicious activity.

The suspected shooter is described as a man with longer hair, wearing a black leather jacket and blue jeans. About 11:30 p.m. the department said the search continued for the gunman on the south side of town.

Officers initially responded to a 911 call about a suspicious man involved in a domestic dispute with a woman on Athens Street at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. When police encountered the man, authorities say the suspect fired at officers, who returned fire.

“Please be vigilant and alert. We have multiple local, state and federal agencies assisting in the search,” the Gainesville Police Department said on social media.

There is no information yet on what sort of gun was used, how many officers have been taken to the hospital, their conditions, or whether the gunman was injured in the gun battle.

Multiple police agencies are working together to locate the subject, including the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
